Warning! It’s the LAST DAY OF JUNE!!
Added: June 30th, 2010 | Be the first to add a comment »
I know you can all read a calendar, but I wanted to remind you that today, June 30, is the LAST DAY for two of our most popular offers/discounts:
- The Alpha Program ends today. This is the deal that allows every child in Missouri from Kindergarden through Grade 5 who has an “A” or equivalent on their final report card to visit the park once for absolutely free. Click here for more details. (Remember, you must bring the report card to qualify!)
- Today is also the last day that our Golden Tickets are valid for free entry into the park. If you haven’t heard about our Golden Tickets, make sure you keep an eye out next year for Gil the Shark’s early season appearances across mid-Missouri. He never leaves home without a bunch of these in his, er, fin. Get one and you qualify for one free entry into the park during June – provided you’re less than 18 years old, that is.
So you have been warned! Today’s your last chance! It’s looking like another hot one, so make the most of these offers, and come on down today if you can! Hope to see you here later!
What Might Have Been…

Most of you probably know this guy by now:
Yes, Gil the Shark has certainly made an impact on everyone’s lives here at Big Surf. He appears most days in the park during the season, spreading fun and playing with our younger guests (and some of our older ones, too.) Even when we’re closed for business, we keep him busy. This spring Gil has had a pretty full dance card, making appearances all over the region, many of which you can read about on this blog.
It’s as if he’s been around for ever. In fact this will only be his second season!
Of course, mascots as wonderful as Gil don’t just materialize of out thin air (or water.) It takes an awful lot of hard work, and no little creativity, to create them. In this we were incredibly lucky that Missy’s brother Jim is a fantastically talented artist who came up with a whole heap of different ideas for us to choose from. Obviously we liked Gil the best, but we thought you might to see some of the other ideas that got away… so here’s a gallery of some of the (still very cool) ideas that we didn’t use. We’d love to hear your thoughts! Did we make the right choice?!?

Today marks the start of this season’s radio campaign. Keep an ear open for our pre-season spots, which we love – it’s a movie-trailer spoof, with lots of inspiring music and a guy with a deep voice being all dramatic. We actually made this a few years ago but loved it so much that we’ve decided to reinstate it for this year.

Opening Weekend… Save Money, Feed the Needy!

Not long to go now…
We’re busy painting and planting and buffing and polishing and getting everything ready for a new season of summer jollity… opening day is just around the corner now, and we know that these final few weeks are going to fly by!
As usual, we’ll be throwing open the doors on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. And in celebration of what promises to be a wonderful summer, we’ve partnered up with Central Missouri Food Bank to do a food drive which will save you money and help feed the poorest in our community.
It’s pretty simple, really: for every day of our opening weekend – including Memorial Day itself – guests get a dollar off their admission for each can of food they bring and deposit in the food drive bins (up to a maximum discount of five bucks per person.) All of the food that is donated over the three days will be used to feed people in our local community. We think it’s a pretty cool way to help those who need it most, and it’s all the better when you get to save money, too! So come along on opening weekend, and don’t forget to bring your canned goods!
It’s Coming…

Hold on to your hats… we’re planning a completely daft offer for 2010 Season Passes.
And when we say daft, we mean daft. So daft, in fact, that our bosses are only letting us run this promotion for ONE DAY ONLY. We’re not ready to release details just yet, and if you want in, you’ll need to sign up for our e-newsletter. That’s the only place where we’ll be announcing what’s going on. Intrigued?
It’ll all be kicking off in a couple of weeks.
Bring the Kids for Free!

As some of you might know, the Alpha Program was a program that Big Surf had in place for the month of June this year. It allowed children from Kindergarten through 5th grade to bring in their report card and if they had an “A” or “A” equivalent in any subject…they got in free once that month. Awesome, right?
Well, have no fear, because the program is back for one weekend only! Labor Day weekend Big Surf is resurrecting the Alpha Program with the same stipulations as the first round. Any child K-5 can bring in their report card with an “A” or an equivalent and get in free that weekend! Yep, free!
Our hours of operation Labor Day weekend are 11 am – 6 pm September 5-7. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to bring the kids in for free!
Backpack Drive 2009

Our 2nd Annual Backpack Drive was held from August 12th through the 14th. We had quite a few backpacks brought in for MOCA (Missouri Ozarks Community Action), which is great!

Some of the backpacks received during our drive this year!
We didn’t have as many as last year, but in this tough time, it is hard for people to make an extra investment! The good thing is that there will be several local kids with brand new backpacks for school this year that might not have had one otherwise!
We are looking forward to next year’s drive and hope it will be huge! Look out for information next year and how you can help out local children in getting their school year started off right!

The summer is winding down and it is nearing back-to-school time. That means it is time for Big Surf’s 2nd Annual Backpack Drive.
If you are unfamiliar with the drive, it is when we ask our customers to bring in a brand new backpack with tags attached and we give them $10 off their ticket that day. Big Surf then stuffs all the backpacks full of school supplies and donates them to MOCA (Missouri Ozarks Community Action). This wonderful event will take place August 12-14, 2009.
After the event, MOCA gets the backpacks in the hands of those in need so they can start their school year off right. We invite all of you to participate and help out a good cause while enjoying Big Surf Waterpark before school gets back in session! Spread the word and give these kids a great chance at a great year!

Loving Our Country… and Supporting our Troops Who Keep Us Free

This seemed like an appropriate post on this Fourth of July.
For the past several years Big Surf has been proud to honor those brave men and women who serve in our country’s military.
We offer a no-strings, unlimited, FREE ADMISSION policy to all active military personnel, all season long.
In addition the families of active military are welcome to enjoy the park at a big discount.
We always pleased to welcome our troops to our park. They perform an incredible service to each and every one of us.
This is just our small way of saying Thanks to these brave men and women for all that they do.
Happy Fourth, everyone.
